Abstract:Abstract: Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent non-apoptotic regulated cell death (RCD) mode, which is charac-terized by the accumulation of intracellular lipid peroxidation products and reactive oxygen species (ROS). In recent years, ferroptosis has attracted much attention in the pathogenic mechanism of postoperative cogni-tive dysfunction (POCD), and is closely related to neuroinflammation, mitochondrial energy metabolism, auto-phagy and other pathogenic mechanisms. Herein, the biological characteristics and functions of ferroptosis and its progress in POCD research are reviewed, hoping to provide the latest valuable information for pre-vention and treatment of the neurological disease.
