Abstract:Abstract: In order to investigate the toxic effects of chlorophacinone on zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos/lar-vae, zebrafish embryos were exposed to 0.20 mg/L, 0.30 mg/L, 0.45 mg/L, and 0.67 mg/L of chlorophacinone solution, respectively, and the survival rate, hatching rate, malformation rate, heart rate, spontaneous move-ments, and length of body were recorded daily. The contents of glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA), activities of catalase (CAT) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) were measured, and total distance and average speed of movement were recorded. The results showed that the survival rates of zebrafish embryos decreased with increasing exposure concentrations. The 96 h-LC50 and 120 h-LC50 values of chlorophacinone were 0.73 mg/L and 0.61 mg/L, respectively. When the exposure concentration was higher than 0.45 mg/L, the number of spontaneous embryo twitches increased, heart rate slowed down significantly, and the rate of mal-formations including pericardial edema and yolk cyst increased significantly. After 120 h of exposure, CAT activity and MDA content in larvae increased significantly, GSH content declined, and AChE activity was also significantly inhibited. Furthermore, chlorophacinone exposure significantly weakened the behavior of larvae. These results indicated that chlorophacinone exposure would have toxic effects on the early develop-ment of zebrafish embryos/larvae.
