Abstract:Abstract: There are some statements about aquatic plants which need to be revised in many botany text-books. The definition of hydrophytes, especially floating plants and submerged plants, should be more accu-rate. Meanwhile, multiple problems occur in the selection of various representative plants and diagrams of leaf anatomy. Most importantly, there are mistakes in explanation of the adaptation syndrome of aquatic plants, which is a key point in learning the topic. Herein, suggestions are proposed to address these issues. Additionally, an inquiry-oriented teaching strategy is presented in the botany of submerged plants, along with a unique emphasis on a lower light compensation point of the plants because the reduction of the light compensation point is the key to understanding the syndrome of plant adaptation to submerged life.
