Abstract:Abstract: Kinesin is one kind of molecular motor, and also a nucleotidase. This kind of protein can convert the chemical energy from ATP hydrolysis to mechanical energy to power its processive movement along microtubule with one ATP molecule per step. How kinesin transforms chemical energy to mechanical energy is a hot issue in the field of biophysics. The studies related to kinesin’s energy conversion are reviewed herein from three aspects: binding of ATP molecule to kinesin, motor-head rotation induced by ATP binding, and kinesin neck-linker docking caused by motor-head rotation. Kinesin’s energy-conversion pathway is the combination of these three aspects.
