Abstract:Abstract: Sperm-egg fusion is the most important step in the process of fertilization. IZUMO1, JUNO and cluster of differentiation antigen 9 (CD9) are currently recognized as essential proteins for sperm-egg fusion. IZUMO1 and JUNO form a complex when the sperm is recognized. Studies have shown that IZUMO1, JUNO and CD9 are mainly involved in the initial adhesion process of sperm-egg fusion, and they are interrelated. In recent years, the crystal structure of IZUMO1-JUNO has been basically elucidated with the development of X-ray crystallography. However, the specific molecular mechanism of sperm-egg fusion has not been fully revealed. Therefore, it is necessary that the structure, function and molecular mechanism of the essential proteins IZUMO1-JUNO/CD9 involved in the mammalian sperm-egg fusion should be elaborated.
