Abstract:Abstract: In order to test the nutrition hypothesis, the contents and activities of some nutrients and defense substances in Dryocosmus kuriphilus larval galls and their adjacent branches were measured by spectrophotometer for the first time. The results showed that the contents or activities of defense substances such as tannin, flavonoids, phenylalanine ammonia lyase and polyphenol oxidase in galls were significantly lower than those in branches. These results were in accordance with the nutrition hypothesis. However, what did not accord with the hypothesis was that the contents of proteins and reducing sugars in galls were significantly lower than those in branches, and the content of starch was not significantly different from each other.
