Abstract:Abstract: The development of tumor is not only related to tumor cell itself, but also has a close relationship with tumor microenvironment. The cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) can promote tumor growth, invasion and metastasis, and angiogenesis, which are supposed to be the main components in the tumor microenvironment. Researches suggest that CAFs mainly come from the normal fibroblasts (NFs) in the tumor stromal tissues, and can also be derived from tumor stem cells and other cells of tumor stroma. NFs can be activated into CAFs by some soluble signaling molecules in tumor microenvironment, thus leading to phenotype changes and functional genes being differentially expressed. Oncoproteins and miRNAs can also activate NFs into CAFs, thereby regulating the development of tumor. Therefore, it’s important in the study of the tumor microenvironment to explore the mechanism and pathway of activation in CAFs and their roles in tumor development. These researches also have a positive effect on the treatment of tumors in the future.
