Abstract:Abstract: Brand’s Essence of Chicken with Cordyceps (BECC) is a kind of dietary supplement which aims to improve sleep quality and fatigue, strengthen the immune system, and enhance physical fitness. To investigate the effects of BECC on the mammalian circadian clock, male Wistar rats were used to establish an animal model of jet lag by reversing both light/dark cycle and feeding schedule, and BECC was exogenously supplemented in their food. Daily locomotor activity was monitored by infrared probes and the mRNA expressions of clock genes in peripheral tissues, including liver and heart, were assessed by real-time quantitative PCR. The results indicated that the administration of BECC accelerated the resetting processes of main clock genes, such as Bmal1 and Cry1 in the liver and heart of jet-lagged rats. Locomotor activity of rats recovered quickly, and this contributed to the earlier adaption of jet lag. Therefore, BECC could regulate the peripheral circadian clock in rats.
